So the US soccer league, known as Major League Soccer, has now started its 11th season and undergone some interesting changes and developments. Despite getting decent attendance numbers, it gets little tv and local media coverage and therefore isn't very well known beyond the cities that have teams.

For those that don't know about MLS, it is a 12 team league with the teams divided into 2 divisions and the top 4 teams in each division making it into the playoffs, where the winner is decided by two leg matches (that strangely don't employ the away goals rule). There is also a version of the FA Cup, though it is called the Open Cup. There is currently one local derby which is in LA between the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA (the US branch of a top Mexican club). This season there is also an in state derby between FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo, formerly of San Jose. Haha, the league's best fans are of course in Chicago where fans stand for the entire match and sing their hearts out, sort of like the old terrace days but without the hoolis.

hehe, I hope so. The league has definitely done a lot of positive things to make it more attractive to sports fans, and adding Becks will definitely bring in a ton of attention.
